The island of Jost Van Dyke is pristine in its natural beauty and we at White Bay Villas strive to protect the ecosystems and reduce the carbon footprint of our property developed by our business.
We currently use energy saving compact fluorescent lighting in all of the villas. Photo electric switches are used for outside lighting where ever possible. The lighting on our footpaths and driveways is solar powered as is some of the hot water being supplied to the villas. Energy Star rated appliances are used throughout our villas.
The layout of the property was designed around the natural landscaping. The location of the buildings have been strategically planned to ease the disruption of the existing habitat. The villas have expansive walkways leading to the beach and other island attractions promoting walking instead of driving vehicles.
During construction, many of the natural materials from Jost Van Dyke have been used for the development of the roads and retaining walls. Much of the construction material used is recycled and reused for further construction projects. Local craftsmen and laborers are employed and local suppliers are utilized to minimize transportation reducing fuel consumption for transport vessels. During excavation of a construction project, the soil that is disrupted from the site is cleaned, sifted and reused for landscaping, creating new bedding areas and other fill uses.
White Bay Villas prides itself on the propagation of new plants from cuttings and seedlings. We grow our own mangos, papayas, bananas, limes, avocados, bread fruit, citrus fruit, melons and more and invite our guests to freely eat the fruit that is in season during their stay. We encourage our guests to utilize the local fishermen on the island to purchase fish and other seafood.
We have our own Reverse Osmosis Plant on the property to supply fresh water as well as cisterns to collect and use rain water as a fresh water source. "Gray water" is used in many parts of the property to irrigate the landscaping and flora. We encourage our guests to conserve water and power as much as possible and ask them to support us in our eco-friendly procedures by reusing towels and linens that are supplied upon arrival.
All the staff at White Bay Villas are conscientious of energy consumption and water conservation. The villas have been designed with exterior electrical switching so fans and outside lights can be turned off by our staff during their daily rounds.
