It is the first
morning of your vacation. You wake up, and sit up in bed and look
out the window and see the Caribbean shining bright blue in the
sunshine. You look further and see sailboats, catamarans, the
white sand against the beautiful blue water and you hear the
Caribbean splashing up on the rocks. You go out on the deck, with
a fresh cup of coffee and stare at the wonder and beauty of White
Bay. The view is a shock to your senses, as you've never seen such
beauty...anywhere in all your life. There is no one around, except
you and your partner, the smell of fresh air, the intoxicating
breezes coming from the trade winds, the spectacular views and,
you finally, feel peace and relaxation take over. The rapid pace
of the world is behind you and a new sensation is beginning.
You are on your deck and
you are wondering what you will do today. You can do as little or
as much as you want. There's snorkeling, hiking, eating, boating,
fishing, swimming, scuba diving, boating around the BVI, sailing,
taking a dinghy out to a secluded cay and having a romantic
picnic, reading, drinking, socializing. So much to do! But, you
decide to head to the beach. You brought some great books and want
to read them. You spot a hammock at Ivan's Stress Free Bar and
decide to relax for the next few hours, reading your book. You lay
back and enjoy the sounds of White Bay. It's getting warm, so you
decide to swim in White Bay and do some snorkeling. The fish are
fantastic and so beautiful. You snorkel for hours on the many
reefs that White Bay offers. The water is perfectly calm and your
swim is very enjoyable. Only 5 people are on the beach and you,
practically, have it to yourself. Lovely!
It is now mid-day and you are hungry. Time to eat. You go to Ivan's, just a few feet away and grab a delicious burger and a painkiller. How nice that you don't have to drive anywhere on Jost...No need to worry about a thing...Perfect serenity. There are local musicians playing on the porch of Ivan's. The music is great and people from all over the world have come and stayed there and played there. You lay back in your hammock and enjoy the music. You are getting a little antsy and decide to head over to the Soggy Dollar bar, where there are a few more people to hang out with. At the Soggy Dollar, there's plenty of beach chairs, and bar space. There's a boutique with lots of island merchandise. The staff is friendly and so are the patrons. You have lots of great conversations and laughter and the beach and the views are wonderful and add to your senses. This is great! It's so unique and special.
It's time to go back to
your cottage and clean up and get ready for dinner. It is only a
few moments to walk back to your Villa. You shower in the amazing
bathroom. It's a double shower that is extended off the bathroom
and has wooden louvers. You are able to see what's going on
outside...and it's completely private.
Where to go for
dinner…there are so many choices. You decide on Cosair's for the
first night. Lots of great selections, from pasta to fresh
seafood. The service is great and so are the prices, only $21 each
for dinner and the food is delicious and fresh. After dinner, you
decide to go to Foxy's to hear live music. It's, of course, Reggae
and it's wonderful and fun to dance. The place is full of people
who have chartered boats to Jost and the place is alive with
wonderful energy. You dance for a long time and meet some really
fine people. This place is amazing!
You walk home from
Foxy's, no need to have a car. Most everything is within walking
distance. A definite bonus! The walk home is amazing. The sky is
full of stars and since there are no bright lights or tall
buildings on Jost, the sky has more stars than you have ever
seen…anywhere. You fall into bed, happy and relaxed.
The next day you decide
to go diving with Capt. Colin. His dive sites sound fabulous and
you can't wait to go. You feel like you have found a gold mine.
With the laid back attitude of the island way and so much to do at
your own time and pace, with no traffic, no noise, no pollution,
no crime, hardly any tourism, just fun, relaxation, socializing,
or just be by yourselves is an amazing and first time experience.
To go to Jost Van Dyke
is returning to a place that you have never experienced anywhere.
You will love it and will be back year after year.
Jost Van Dyke is the
Last Virgin Island.
